The Wandering Heart Project

Our mission at The Wandering Heart Project is to ensure foster and homeless children of all ages throughout Massachusetts have access to basic essentials and clothing.

The Wandering Heart Project is made possible by our wonderful volunteers, generous donors, board members, and our co-founders.

In September 2020, Samantha was collecting clothes around her house and from neighbors to donate to children in the foster care system. A local social worker then reached out asking for the location of the organization and was disappointed to hear it was a distance away. That’s when Samantha had an idea. She immediately started calling and texting family and friends stating that she was going to start collecting clothes for foster children to distribute to local DCF offices.

When Samantha called Amanda to ask if she had any to add, instead of offering clothing, Amanda immediately wanted to be involved. Having experienced difficult times in their own childhoods, both friends understood the hardships many youth in the system face.

After discussing and then researching, they realized there was a need for readily accessible essentials and clothing for foster and homeless children in Massachusetts. They immediately sprang into action and in minutes the idea for The Wandering Heart Project was born (mostly via text message)!

Initially Amanda and Samantha thought they would start small, collecting clothing donations in corners of their homes. However, after just reaching out to family and friends and creating their first posts on social media, the outpouring of love and support from their community was overwhelming! Their little donation corners grew.

The Wandering Heart Project manages donations from their warehouse in Rockland, MA. The Wandering Heart Project makes regular donations to foster children all over Massachusetts along with children experiencing homelessness.

Kind Hearts for Kids, Inc.

At Kind Hearts for Kids, we aim to provide a safe, joyful environment for celebrating milestones and creating cherished memories for children in foster or grandparent care. We’ve hosted numerous birthday parties, holiday celebrations, and this year will be our 4th annual Kind Hearts for Kids Kindness Festival! These events bring fun and a sense of normalcy and belonging to the children. Your contributions directly impact these families, both children and adult caregivers. Nothing beats seeing a child’s big, bright smile when you know they’ve been through unthinkable trauma, or the gratitude from foster parents and grandparents raising their grandchildren when we help celebrate the children in their care!

We are continuing to expand our programs to further support the well-being of the children and their caregivers. Thank you for your support and believing in our mission. Together, we are making a difference, one celebration at a time!

Nicole Mitchell, along with a team of compassionate individuals in Bourne, MA founded Kind Hearts for Kids in January 2019. The idea came to mind after Nicole had spent several years doing acts of kindness to support children and families who were going through extremely difficult times.

The more families she met, the more she realized just how many people were in need of assistance. She began to see the challenge many parents, grandparents, and other caregivers faced because the children in their care often weren’t able to receive gifts for their birthdays, Christmas, and other holidays, like their friends and classmates did.

Kind Hearts for Kids aims to change this for as many children as possible, by serving children/teens living in foster care, including with grandparents or other relatives.
